Cars of Coolhaven

The Mercedes G (for Geländewagen) is an all-wheel drive that has been around for quite some time now. Production of this rugged, durable and reliable Merc began in 1979. And the fun part, two weeks ago Jurriaan and I were off to Regensburg, Germany to buy one of the oldies in the series, and to do some nice kayaking in the region as well. Cars of a certain age are not liable for road tax in the Netherlands, for reasons best left unspoken, and our poor, poor student of course needs a ‘cheap to run’ car. So let’s buy a Mercedes… Nothing like a 2000 kilometer vice versa trip to purchase an almost thirty year old vehicle for a dyslectic student with two way too big dogs… Of course, the car was sold before we even left, and we ended up paddling in France instead, but I digress

Back to the plot: This weekend we had a block party from a ‘hip-hop house’ some doors down, some multi-cultural project which was having a party and basically just generating lots of noise. Just the thing that would be ‘fun and proof of a vibrant city life’ in the past, but more recently basically a nuisance and a source of lots of noise, all day long. Boy, aren’t I getting old But, sure enough, one of the music lovers visiting Coolhaven to participate in the cultural happening that is called Dutch hip-hop, drove… a nice Mercedes G class.

which goes to show that you can plan to drive thousands of kilometers for this car, but end up with one right on your doorstep Literally, the door in picture 2 is my front door
