The classic American car does not always do it for me, some are a bit too much over the top, all are way too big and none of them are even near practical. But boy, some of them can be pretty! And this is a pretty little Dodge. Hard to imagine that they would market this as a ‘compact car’. I have its grandson posted here earlier, and as always it is sad to see how a model ends up… But back in ’63, they still built lookers!
Granted, I am a sucker for two-tone cars, but this is a nicely kept beauty. Unfortunately parked under a fly-over so the light conditions weren’t ideal for taking pictures. Oh well. This third generation redesign was a great success, and would set the Dart name firmly in the market, making it a great seller all the way to the last 1976 fifth generation. There is a station wagon version of the Dart as well (although it has a different (shorter!) wheelbase. If you imagine a large aquarium placed on the back of the car (see sixth picture for a good example), then there’s your station wagon! It looks completely bonkers, but hey, it sold…
