Oh, sometimes you just get lucky. On my way to a restaurant, I run into this beauty. One of my favorite Jaguars, and a 3.4 liter as well! This car was sort of a racing monster in its days, being the preferred car of all of those who wanted to go fast… and being quite roomy as well, you could go very fast with four, five persons in it as well. As well as a lot of stuff. Like, ehm… loot. You wouldn’t believe it as you saw this beautiful looker of a car standing next to a curb in the city nowadays, but if Wikipedia is to be believed, this (well, the 3.8 liter model, but still, it is a nice anecdore…
) was the bank robber’s car of choice for quite a while. So much so, that eventually the cops started driving around in them as well, just to be able to keep up with the fast fleeing criminals… Must have been superbly looking hot pursuits!
Some specs from Wikipedia: The Jaguar Mark 2 (also known as Mk2, Mk 2 or MkII) is a medium sized saloon car built by the Jaguar company in Coventry, England. Adhering to William Lyons’ maxim of “grace, pace and space”, the Mark 2 was a beautiful, fast and capable saloon car. It came with either a 2.4 liter, 3.4 liter or 3.8 liter Jaguar XK6 engine. The 3.8 is similar to the unit used in the 3.8 E-Type (XKE), having a different inlet manifold and carburation (two SUs versus three on the E-Type in Europe) and therefore 30 bhp less. The head of the six cylinder engine in the E-Type was also different with its “straight port” layout as opposed to the slightly curved ports of the Mark 2. Some 28.663 of the 3.4 liter version were built.
Lovely car! Great lines, must be tons of fun to drive as well…
