Right next to the Chevrolet 3100, I see this old Saab. Normally, I would not stop to take pictures, but hey, I am here, what the heck. It turns out to be a late model Saab 96, nothing really fancy. It’s been built for twenty years, more than half a million are produced. Boring car, nothing special to see here. Or is there?
The Saab 96 was in its days renowned for its rallye driving capabilities. Back in the early sixties, the victories of for instance the Rallye Monte Carlo of drivers as Erik Carlsson, and successes of Tom Trana and Simo Lampinen laid a very thorough foundation beneath the success of this car. Of course, those 96′s are way different from this late model 96. But how is this one special, then? Well… I am not completely sure, but I have a very strong suspicion that this particulate model is the limited edition model for the Netherlands, celebrating Saab’s 25 years in the Dutch market.
