Simca 1000 Spring Special (1961-1978)

It is wonderful to go to the beautiful city of Leiden, and to be sure that every time you park your car in your favorite garage, you will spot a special car 🙂 First, the Volvo 1800 S and the VW Karmann Ghia, soon followed with the old Barkas. And now… a Simca 1000! Unfortunately, the car was parked in a very dark spot, so the pictures aren’t that great, but still.

The Simca 1000 was built in France between 1961 and 1978, and the production numbers are quite impressive for such a poorly constructed, highly oversteering car: almost two million were built! The engine of the car is in the back, as well as the gas tank. This meant that the Simca had a fairly heavy back, and this did not improve the handling! Luckily, this Mario Boano design was rear wheel drive. Knowing this, I am very interested in the Abarth version of this car! To be nice and sporty, you can”t have the oversteer this car has. Oh well, maybe next time in town I spot the Simca 1000 Abarth a few floors higher, on the sundeck 🙂
