Peugeot 504 Cabriolet

February 10th, 2008 by Rolph · 5 Comments

Although I currently drive a Peugeot, I certainly don’t appreciate all Peugeots. However, with this sleek and smart cabrio, I spot myself a car I really like. Not surprisingly, it has a Pininfarina badge on the side…

Now, don’t get me wrong. This is a Peugeot 504, and not a very exciting car. A relatively large car for its days, and somewhat on the reliable side, but exciting? Not really. The cabriolet version is quite the opposite. I like it! They got rid of the silly knick in the back, and the boring front isn’t too boring to be annoying. What’s puzzling me are the insignia on the bonnet of the car, see picture five. Does that say V6? As in the engine? Strangely enough, I can’t seem to find V6 504’s on the internet.

When judging a car, there is always the ‘would I buy it?‘-factor. Well, I don’t know, mainly because I know little of these cars. How is the performance, what are the costs. Based purely on looks, I wouldn’t turn a bargain down, but there are better cabrio’s on the market from this era. Especially the head- and taillights are just too boring. I wouldn’t be ashamed to drive one, though, so I’ll put it in the grey area.

Of course, we want to see the differences with the regular 504. Well, here are some pictures from the 504 saloon:

Not entirely the same in style, one would agree…

I also own the 504 saloon. Actually I own 2 of them, the 1978 and 1982 model.
Very satisfying car, comfortable and low maintenance car. I wonder if they would make this model again.-erwin(Indonesia)

I own one of these, a 1975 V6 version, same color. One of a handful in the USA (I’m located in Boston). Car was not only designed by Pininfarina, but the bodies were manufactured by them as well. So they tend to rust like most cars made in Italy in the 1970’s. Otherwise, it’s a very enjoyable drive.

I had a 73 cabriolet from 81 to 89 and it was the most attention grabbing car i have ever driven .I now have another one on the way from england that will cost me half what i sold the first one for in 89 .if you think the headlights and tail lights are boring the earlier 4 cyl cars look stunning with 4 headlights and 6 slanted tail lights
