Audi 100 sedan (1973)

On my way to Dordrecht, I spot this beige oldie. At first glance, my brain files it under ‘beige Peugeot 504′ and I want to continue my journey. But rapidly it dawns on me that Peugeots generally don’t tend to carry the Audi logo ;-) This car is a sedan version of the Audi 100 Coupé S which started off this website. Originally with an engine with a power output of 99 hp, the Audi 100 was the range’s largest car after the Audi brand was revived by Volkswagen in 1965. The C1 platform spawned several variants: the Audi 100 two- and four-door sedans, and the Audi 100 Coupé S, the stylish fastback coupé. Now these cars, you don’t see that often anymore, so let’s take some pictures.

The coupé version is a car of great beauty, and the two door sedan is nice and looks very posh for its days. This four door sedan, especially in this color, does not really do it for me… However, taking pictures always draws some attention, and the owner of this car comes to greet me, and basically to see why I am taking pictures of this car. She is very happy with the performance of the car, and uses it as her every day car. The chassis is still in perfect condition, although she admits that the body work could use a little touch-up… So it isn’t the looker in the Audi family, but a car that is still soundly functioning after 25 years surely earns the right to be admired. Trust me, all those 207′s and Yaris’ you see now every day will not look like this in 2033!

The design was more or less bought over from Mercedes-Benz, when Volkswagen bought Auto Union/DKW from themm and revived the Audi name.
